Easy Strawberry Smoothie Recipes: The Berry Tales

Who doesn’t love a good strawberry?

They are crisp, tart, sweet, and such a lovely shade of red! They can be used in sweet dishes, salads, and even pizza. Strawberries pair well with a variety of flavors. They do well with tart foods like rhubarb and other berries, tangy foods like cheese and yogurt, spicy foods like jalapenos (strawberry salsa anyone?) and cayenne, savory dishes like pizza and salads, and let’s not forget sweets!

After the post about my best strawberry smoothie recipe, I thought I might have put the cart before the horse. I love that recipe! I really do. But there are other strawberry smoothie recipes that are just as good (almost). I do keep in mind not everyone is going to like goat cheese or even cream cheese for that matter. So I thought I would showcase some easy strawberry smoothie recipes for the lovely folks out there who may not find the last one quite so appealing. Plus, since they are pretty basic these will work well for kids who love their berries!

With August coming to a close, strawberries are about to disappear until next year (at least the season for strawberries). I was at a local produce market this last week and saw beautiful organic strawberries on sale. So of course I bought them! I brought them home and immediately set to prepping them for the freezer (and snacked on a few).

When it comes to smoothies, strawberries definitely liven things up! In fact, I haven’t found a fruit pairing that strawberries don’t do well with. Most prepacked frozen ones usually tend to be on the tart side. So if you want them sweeter, it’s usually best to freeze them yourself. In fact, the “uglier” ones that are a bit overripe usually make the best smoothies as they are the sweetest they’ll get. And prepping them yourself doesn’t take too much time! Just wash them, cut off the tops, and throw them in a freezer safe container or bag. That’s it!

However, if you are like me and just don’t have that kind of time (or don’t want to) I buy the prepacked frozen variety. And to compensate for the tartness, I usually add a few dates or a tablespoon of honey or other natural sweetener.

When you can, buy organic strawberries as they have been on the “dirty dozen” list for as long as I can remember. In fact, they ranked number 1 this year.

And one least thing I need to mention about using frozen strawberries. They have a tendency to swell while blending. I normally suggest in most smoothie recipes to keep the juice a little under the top of the fruit (around a 1/2 inch). But with strawberry smoothies go ahead and put enough that all the fruit is almost covered.


Easy Strawberry Smoothie Recipes

So here are four simple and easy strawberry smoothie recipes that are vegan, healthy, and delicious that can be enjoyed by the whole family!

Raspberry Strawberry Smoothie

 

Raspberry Strawberry Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries (about 5-7)
  • 1/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 – 1 1/2 cup pineapple juice (enough to reach the top of the fruit)

Berry My Love Smoothie

  • 3/4 cup frozen strawberries (about 3-5)
  • 1/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen cherries
  • 2 tbsp. dark vegan chocolate chips
  • 1 – 1 1/2 cup apple juice (enough to reach the top of the fruit)

Berry Cherry Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries (about 5-7)
  • 1/4 cup frozen cherries
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 – 1 1/2 cup orange juice (enough to reach the top of the fruit)

Berry Tales Smoothie

  • 3/4 cup frozen strawberries (about 3-5)
  • 1/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 tbsp. goji berries
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (enough to reach the top of the fruit)

Instructions

Place everything besides fruit, juice, and oil in blender first.

Then add the strawberries and other fruits (if any).

Add the juice until it sits at the very top of the fruit.

Turn on blender at the lowest setting and let it run until everything is starting to blend together. Add more liquid if needed to reach desired thickness.

Slowly turn the setting to high.

Once the smoothie is thoroughly blended (and you are getting the vortex at the top) add the oil (if any) and blend for another 5 seconds.

Immediately serve.


Recipe Notes

If you prefer it sweeter, you can either add 1-2 dates or 1 tbsp. honey.

If you’d like to make the Berry My Love a bit more complex, it tastes wonderful with 1 tbsp. coconut oil and 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract.

  • Hello Tina. My middle daughter Jessie wanted to pop on here and check for new smoothies. Your smoothies have been by far a homerun in this house. she got so excited to see these New ideas.       And with any of these recipes, they’re flexible. So say if you don’t have pineapple juice, you can substitute with apple or orange juice and still get a great tasting drink. That might save you a trip to the grocery store. 🙂

      I hope you enjoy making the Raspberry Strawberry Smoothie. These recipes are pretty flexible so you can always substitute the juice in any of these smoothies for pineapple and still make a great tasting drink.

      Milk is a great liquid for any smoothie but there are so many other options out there! I highly suggest you play around with other ones like coconut water, juices, or even almond milk.     We love strawberries and I haven’t made any smoothies in a long while, but you have inspired me. I just found your site and have bookmarked it.

    Like Kavatha I always have added milk, cream or some dairy as my base, and think the juice will be a nice change.
    I have the strawberries but I will need to pick up some chocolate and some cherries. I am going to try the “Berry my Love” recipe. Can’t wait 🙂

      The Berry my Love is a personal favorite. If you like the recipe as is, next time try adding some vanilla extract and coconut oil. That’s the way I make mine at home. Just look in the recipe notes and I’ve got measurement suggestions there.

      Milk is a great liquid base for most smoothies but I actually prefer almond milk or hemp milk because there are fewer calories and it works just as well as cow’s milk. If you’d like some good recipes for using milk, I’ve got a post with almond milk smoothie recipes. You can just substitute cow’s milk for them instead.
